History
The History of Peter Green Chilled: Our Beginnings in the 1960s
The history of Peter Green Chilled began in 1960, when Peter Green founded Peter Green Haulage Ltd in Somerset. Local dairy producers needed reliable transport for their cheese, and Peter built a contract network to meet their needs. This became the foundation of the company we know today.
We quickly became known for regular deliveries of Farmhouse Cheddar across the UK — even supplying a small London convenience store called J Sainsbury! From our first base at Evercreech train station, the business continued to grow.

Expanding in the 1970s
During the 1970s, we broadened our services to include chilled and frozen distribution. With new vehicles on the road and an expanding customer base, Peter Green became a trusted name in UK logistics.
A New Hub in the 1980s
By 1981, the company needed more space. We relocated to a former quarry site in Evercreech and built our first warehouses. This move gave us the room to grow and also allowed us to establish transport partnerships across Europe.
In 1994, the Binks family acquired the company, bringing Peter Green into a wider shipping and logistics group.
Family Ownership and Today
Many of the dairy businesses that partnered with us over 40 years ago are still part of the Peter Green family today. Over time, our company history has expanded into all areas of the temperature-controlled sector, carrying dairy, meat, ready meals, drinks, confectionery, “free-from” and plant-based products.
Today, the Peter Green Chilled story is one of growth and innovation. We offer customers a complete logistics package that includes UK groupage, imports and exports across Europe, warehousing for goods from North America and beyond, and a dedicated in-house customs team.
With a team of more than 200 people, Peter Green Chilled remains under family ownership and management. This ethos continues to guide us as we adapt to the changing needs of modern transport and warehousing.
